before getting touchy feely

Be aware of what touches your partner most. Photo courtesy of _natural_.
Often overlooked, what part of your body will almost always be in contact with your partner while dancing Casino or Salsa?
Your hands. Your hands will be felt more than anything else. Be mindful of them.
I think you should be aware of both how your hands feel physically as well as how they interact with your partner. Let’s talk about both…
Count Dracula’s Syndrome
Guys, keeping those nails short and filed is a great start. Even if you lay bricks all day, throwing on a coat of lotion or two can make a big difference to your partner. Would you really want Vlad’s long krusty digits menacingly caressing your skin during a moonlight dance? Pull out the bottle of holy lotion and put him to rest.
Death Grips, Karate Chop Hands, and Rigor Mortis
Death Grips – Leads, be aware of how tight you are gripping, especially around the wrist. Gentle firmness.
Karate Chop Hands – Follows, please keep your finger tips relaxed and curled. Your hands should never all of the sudden pop open and stiffen unless your lead compels you to do so.
Rigor Mortis – Follows and leads, a good practice is to try and make your hands feel good rather than simply avoid making them feel bad. Twisted fingers and awkward hand positions can ruin an otherwise good dance.
In general, be mindful of your hands and handle your partner’s body like priceless artwork.
Even when they do silly things.
