Lessons From Annie
“Buddha says: ‘A child without courage is like a night without stars.’” -Punjab from Annie
Children in general, are fearless.
Have you ever watched a child on the dance floor?
A child dances without fear.
A child dances only to please and express themselves and they could care less who is watching them..most of the time.
The child on the dance floor doesn’t have the expectations of others, “all figured out” in their head.
The child on the dance floor doesn’t create stories in their mind about what others are thinking.
So they perform powerfully.
And they expose their true light, often delighting the hearts of observers.
The child’s eyes are not closed to what is going on around them. They are more open in fact.
We as adults, search for fears to create, and once we have found them, we focus on them until they have become real.
We then work to maintain this fear. And then we say, “I told you I have something to worry about.” But chances are, we gave it life.
A child on the other hand, doesn’t have the accumulated knowledge to bring these fears to life. Their mind is a blank screen.
Because children have so few expectations of people’s behavior, they express themselves fearlessly.
Whether in dance, work, or life, don’t have the mind of an expert. This is a fearful mindset, closed off and inflexible.
Wouldn’t it be nice to combine the training that an adult has access to, with the courage of a child?
This is what the greatest dancers already do and know.
If you have the mind of a child, you will have the child’s possibility of limitless courage, growth and creativity.
